Dr. Shields

Meet Dr. Shields

Dr. Timothy Shields enjoys working with both children and adult patients to help each individual achieve a fantastic smile. His orthodontic philosophy is to provide excellent orthodontic care in a considerate, fun atmosphere.

Education and experience

Dr. Shields earned his Master of Science in dentistry from the University of Washington Department of Orthodontics in 1983 after graduating from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry with honors in 1981. His original research into post-orthodontic treatment tooth movement appeared in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and continues to be cited in ongoing research.

Dr. Shields feels that it is critical to remain at the forefront of technological advances in orthodontics. Consequently, he attends numerous orthodontic education programs and is actively involved in a study group with seven other Pacific Northwest orthodontists.

His professional affiliations and awards include:

Dr. Shields decided on a career in dentistry while still in high school back in Peoria, Illinois. He enjoyed playing football as well as other team sports through high school, and graduated as class valedictorian. He moved to the Northwest in order to study orthodontics at the top program in the country: the University of Washington!

As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Shields quickly fell in love with the Northwest and began his practice at our current location in 1983. Through the many years, Dr. Shields has been privileged to provide quality orthodontic care to more families, friends, and neighbors than any other orthodontist in Snohomish County.

Outside the office

Dr. Shields and his wife, Dr. Loree Bolin, live in Edmonds. Their three sons have started their own post-college careers. Dr. Shields enjoys playing guitar, tennis, golf, water sports, cycling, downhill skiing, skate skiing, and travel.

Dr. Shields has been active in the University of Washington Orthodontic Alumni Association. He recently served as the Clinic Fund Chairperson to create a new clinic for the graduate students to practice in. Dr. Shields personally raised more than $1,200,000 in pledges! After six years of fundraising, the University of Washington dedicated the new clinic in 2011.
